LANGUAGE OF MEMORY (14)

50 x 50 cm. 2019. Acrylic, ink (acrylic), graphite and silk on canvas.

Most of this painting was completed on location overlooking Dollis Brook. Layered pools of acrylic ink and high flow acrylic paint were slowly built up on untreated silk, mapping the movement of light and shade over the course of the day. Back in the studio the silk was stretched onto a canvas to allow finer detail and other adjustments, allowing memory of experience to dictate the final outcome.

Series Overview

The Language of Memory (Subjectivity of Perception) series evolved from studies of trees completed in situ and subsequently transformed, through a process of iteration and investigation, into indeterminate forms recording the memory of place. The process aims to build a personal language with which to explore the experience of being physically present, questioning the subjectivity of our individual experiences.
